Padres Pedal the Cause. Bound for Cures. will be a virtual event experience on May 8, 2021 centered around our mission of accelerating cures for cancer, with every dollar raised going directly to local cancer research. Participants will register to fundraise in honor of survivors, fighters, or loved ones lost to cancer and participate in the virtual experience by running, walking, cycling, or designing a personal activity.

DETAILS ABOUT REGISTRATION

We are so excited to invite you to our virtual Padres Pedal the Cause. Bound For Cures. on Saturday, May 8, 2021.

REGISTRATION FEE: $49

Participants will gain access to our fundraising platform where each person can create a fundraising profile. All participants will also receive a Padres Pedal the Cause swag bag in the mail including a technical shirt and other goodies.

*Note: April 15th is the deadline to register to recieve your items in the mail before May 8th. If you register after April 15th, you will recieve your items in the mail after the event.

Participants may choose to decline the swag items and instead allow the $49 contribution to support other Padres Pedal programs.

You will also have access to all event day virtual participation resources including virtual class options and course suggestions with in-person Padres Pedal supported aid stations throughout San Diego County (locations to be determined based on state and local health guidelines).

FUNDRAISING GOALS

This year, you will register to fundraise in honor of survivors, fighters and loved ones lost to cancer, and participate in the virtual experience by running, walking, cycling, or designing a personal or team activity. At each fundraising level, you receive an appreciation gift for your hard work, as described below! We encourage everyone to be bold! 100% of fundraising dollars go directly to fund collaborative cancer research at our four beneficiary institutions.

Below are the fundraising levels and incentives you can register for:

  • $100 Accelerator – a $25 digital gift card to the Padres Pedal shop page
  • $500 Cancer Warrior – a 2021 event water bottle
  • $1,000 Cancer Champion – a branded face mask
  • $2,500 Cure Creator – an honorary “I Pedal For” Sign for you to put in your yard or to be placed at a cheer station on event day
  • $5,000 Yellow Jersey Fundraiser – a special 2021 event pullover
  • $10,000 MVP Fundraiser – special package delivered to your house on event day!

You earn your items once you surpass each level. You will be invited to pick up your incentive package before the event or have it shipped to you the week after the event.

Please note, if you do not wish to receive items listed above, you may indicate that in the registration process and we will use the funding to support other Padres Pedal the Cause programs.

1.When and where does Padres Pedal the Cause 2021 take place?

Starting in 2021 and moving forward, Padres Pedal the Cause will take place in the spring. Considering the health and safety of each of our participants and supporters, Padres Pedal the Cause. Bound for Cures. will take place virtually on Saturday May 8. While there will be no gatherings at Petco Park on May 8, there will be three cheer stations to include in our route for the day at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in Bird Rock, the top of Torrey Pines hill, and the intersection of Avenida Encinas and the 101 in Carlsbad!

Padres Pedal the Cause. Bound for Cures. welcomes all who have been touched by cancer. Participants and teams are encouraged to choose their own form of participation; whether cycling, running, walking, surfing, or any other preferred activity, we look forward to coming together with one mission in mind: accelerating cures for cancer.

While we encourage participants to pave their own path for participation, we will also have a handful of live-streamed classes offerings such as yoga, spin, and a strength class, and we will share recommended cycling and running/walking routes throughout San Diego county.

4.What is included with my $49 registration fee?

5.Are there fundraising commitments in 2021?

We encourage participants to select a fundraising goal, each of which include unique Padres Pedal incentive items. Learn more about our incentive levels and items here.

For 2021, we will not enforce fundraising commitments or charge people who do not reach their goal; instead, we encourage people to fundraise as hard as they can without fear of penalty for falling short.

Fundraising ends on May 31, 2021.

6.Can I change my fundraising goal after I have registered?

Yes, if you are interested in changing your fundraising goal after you have registered you can visit your personal fundraising page and click “MANAGE” on the top right. You will then see a number of menu options starting with “OVERVIEW” on the far left; click “DETAILS” on the far right and then scroll down to update the field titled “FUNDRAISING GOAL.” If you need some assistance changing your fundraising goal, contact admin@gopedal.org.

7.Where does the fundraising go?

100% of fundraising dollars go directly to collaborative cancer research in San Diego among our four local beneficiaries.

8.Are donations tax-deductible?

Padres Pedal the Cause is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and your donation qualifies as a charitable deduction for income tax purposes as no goods or services were provided. 9.Will there be any in-person gatherings or events on May 8?

While we encourage families and teams to organize small gatherings and events on May 8, all gatherings must be in accordance with CDC best practices and local regulations.

VIRTUAL EVENT DAY SCHEDULE AND OPTIONS

MAY 8, 2021 – VIRTUAL EVENT DAY SCHEDULE

7:00am – Live Stream National Anthem, Mission Moment, and Ceremonial Start

7:00am-noon – Plan your route to visit a Padres Pedal supported cheer station throughout the county (official locations listed to the right). Swing through Torrey Pines to see the Mission Mile lined with signs honoring loved ones who are fighting cancer, people we have lost, and the doctors and researchers working to end this disease.

7:15am-8:55am – Spin class presented by SparkCycle

9:15am-10:00am – OrangeTheory Fitness Strength Class

10:15am-11:00am – Yoga class presented by lululemon

5:00pm – Main Program featuring stories of survivorship, examples of the impact you are helping to create, and a special announcement!

OPTIONS FOR VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION

We encourage everyone to participate on event day in the way that you prefer. Run, ride, swim, surf, practice yoga, dance… all to honor those fighting cancer personally and those fighting to end it in the lab and clinic.

We will be providing resources to help everyone plan their activity including live streamed classes to join in:

7:15am – Spin Class presented by SparkCycle – Join spin instructor and breast cancer survivor, Kellie Sullivan, for a 100-minute spin class! This party on the bike will be filled with inspiration and will challenge you to give 100%. Coming to you live from SparkCycle, Kellie’s class with leave you feeling accomplished!

9:15am – OrangeTheory Fitness Strength Class – Join OrangeTheory Fitness for a fun and accessible 45-minute strength class lead by instructor, James. This class will be an interval training style focusing on body weight movements with options to add weights or make modifications.

• 10:15am – Yoga Class with lululemon Ambassador – Join lululemon ambassador, Sophia De Silva, for a 45-minute yoga class that will stretch your body and strengthen your mind. Sophia is an instructor at Om Yoga Club and is passionate about utilizing the practice of yoga as means to embody soulful living.

Note: All classes will be streamed from the Padres Pedal website on a dedicated landing page. A link will be sent to all registered participants leading up to the event.
