All About Our 2017 Routes

Riding for Padres Pedal the Cause is always rewarding, but this year’s routes mean rides that are better than ever! Whether you’re riding on Saturday, Sunday or both days, you’ll experience San Diego like you’ve never seen it before, with gorgeous landmarks and scenery along the route. All routes will start in centerfield at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. If you’re a baseball fan, you’ll especially enjoy this unique field perspective!

All our Saturday routes will go over the famed Coronado Bridge, except the Urban Loop. The iconic Coronado Bridge offers incredible views over its 2.1 miles and, since it’s usually closed to pedestrians and cyclists, riding this landmark will be a memorable opportunity! After the bridge, you’ll pass the famous Hotel Coronado and Silver Strand Beach. If you’re riding the Coronado Classic, you’ll return to Petco Park from here, but the other routes will continue after a rest stop. Mountain View Park, with incredible views of Otay County Open Space Reserve, is the next rest stop, with Olympic Challenge riders then heading back to Petco Park. Honey Springs Heartbreaker riders will continue, eventually reaching a peak elevation of 2629 feet! After that, riders will take in beautiful views of Sweetwater Summit Regional Park, Rohr Park, Bonita and finally stunning San Diego Bay

Sunday riders will all ride through Balboa Park, the nation’s largest urban cultural park, which contains 17 museums, multiple performing arts spaces, the San Diego Zoo and more. Depending on the route, Sunday riders will also have the chance to ride by other famed San Diego parks, including Tecolote Canyon National Park, Kate O’Sessions Park, Torrey Pines Reserve and La Jolla Cove. The Beneficiary Route will give riders the opportunity to see Padres Pedal’s beneficiaries up close, including Rady Children’s Hospital, The Salk Institute, UC San Diego Health and Sanford Burnham Prebys. Each beneficiary uses the funds we raise for life-saving research to help end cancer.

For riders who want shorter options, the Afternoon Urban Loop on Saturday offers entertaining 2-mile loops around Petco Park, or you can join as a Stationary Bike rider on Sunday morning. No matter which route you choose or how you decide to ride in Padres Pedal events, you’ll be able to enjoy the sites and feel great about your contribution to creating a world without cancer. Together, we can save lives.
